How can you make your home a look more welcoming?
Making your home a welcoming space is a great idea not only for guests, but also for you. Nothing is more relaxing than coming home to a clean and organized space. I personally try to tackle a little each week. Washing windows, cleaning blinds, getting rid of magazines and organizing cupboards and closets. Once you have tackled some of these jobs, it will be easier to focus on a design style or interior theme.
How do I choose the right design style for my home?
When designing a space, not all the latest trends will be for you or your home. Your basic bones (architecture) will dictate the direction you will want to go. There are many resources online to help you with focusing on what you love. Checking out Instagram, Facebook, Houzz and Pinterest apps will give you lots of inspiration. Sometimes, you have a treasured heirloom that can be the basis for a theme, it can be a piece of furniture, a piece of art, your home’s location (lake house) or specific use of the room (kitchen, mancave, bathroom, or coffee bar); these are all great places to start.
What do you recommend for outdoor design?
We all love the summer with the longer days and warmer weather. Spending our time outside is top priority for many families including ours. Creating those outdoor spaces is essential to enjoying and making memories with family and friends. We have created a play space for our grandkids which includes a playset, lights, picnic table, and chairs for adults (and kiddos). We also decorate it for the seasons (summer, fall or Halloween. Our kiddos love it and we do too! We also have another space on our front porch - we have included furniture, hanging baskets, a welcome sign, and a hummingbird feeder. You can also add rugs, pillows, lanterns and candles. These are all areas that are fun and memorable for us and our families to use.
What are some current design trends?
Right now, minimalistic decorating is becoming trendier. Which realistically has many benefits, least of all, less to clean and take care of. That makes it even more important that you pick the correct item/items to display in your home. I think that the items you want to have will be both functional and beautiful.
Inside trends for 2022 - trending this year are wicker, floral designs, real or artificial plants. These are all easy add- ins to help your home look more on trend. Wicker can be brought in with baskets or rugs - use to organize towels, books, magazines, remote controls. Floral patterns can be used on pillows, bedding, pictures and wallpaper (stick-on) for a quick reno.
