This May be the Best Coffee Shop in Shipshewana
Sometimes, even in the middle of Amish country, you just need a good caffeine fix. With all the shopping to do and places to see in Shipshewana, grabbing a mug of hot joe is almost a necessity. Where's a great place to get a great cup of coffee? Look no further than the Kitchen Cupboard.
The Kitchen Cupboard is a coffee, tea and specialty drink cafe located inside the Davis Mercantile in Shipshewana, Indiana (255 Main St). You may have walked by the cafe on your way to JoJo's Pretzels or the other 20 plus unique shops that are all housed inside. The Davis Mercantile also has a giant tree up the middle of the building, so that is something to see in itself!
The coffee beans at the Kitchen Cupboard are locally roasted in Goshen, Indiana, so you know the coffee is going to taste good. They also offer espressos, cappuccinos, frappes, fruit smoothies, chais, Republic of Tea and gourmet foods. Check the menu boards outside or at the counter for monthly drink specials and different food offerings.
My favorite drink to get is the vanilla chai. It's sweet, but also has a little bit of spice! Perfect to warm up with during Indiana's cold winter days or cool summer mornings. I also can't forget about my normal go-to, the hot vanilla latte. (I like vanilla, okay?) Ask for whipped cream and caramel drizzle on top, and you will be on the "espresso-way" to heaven.
The atmosphere at this coffee shop has a vintage-feel with gorgeous hardwood floors and is a great spot to just sit and rest awhile. There is even a counter where you can look out on the town and would be a perfect place to people watch.
The cafe also features a few tables that were made right here in Shipshewana. You can read about their craftsmanship and even purchase them! I saw one farm table that was made right next door by a salvage and repurposing business called Cherry Pickers. It was certainly unique and gorgeous!
Also, the service at the Kitchen Cupboard is friendly and fast, which is great so you can get on with moseying through the other shops in the building.
The Kitchen Cupboard also sells handmade "hand warmer" mugs, coffee beans, drink mixes, teas, a selection of packaged food and drink, and gift items. It's definitely worth a stop (or two, or three) on your next visit to Shipshewana or as you "enjoy life sip by sip," as the Kitchen Cupboard motto goes.
