This Amish owned Tea Shop in Shipshewana will surprise your taste buds!
Red Bud is a local tea, gift shop and café all rolled into one great store. They have nearly 200 flavors of loose leaf teas, hundreds more specialty teas, teapots, chocolates, candy, ice cream, local Amish artwork and specialty items of all kinds for the kitchen and home. You will find something new to take home every time you visit.
Red Bud is located upstairs in Yoder’s Red Barn Shoppes and once you step in, you will be greeted right away by a friendly, local face who will offer you one of the days’ two featured loose tea samples. One of my favorites is Berry Blend, a staple for cold winter evenings in my home. The sweet aroma is so relaxing and it tastes even better, which makes it a favorite for my entire family. I can’t let my refillable tin ever run out of this one!
Choose your favorite blend and it will keep very well for many months in the Red Bud tins. Although it is likely not to last that long because you’ll end up drinking it every chance you get. And, when you visit again, just remember to bring back the tin for a refill – they give a little extra savings to you since you already have the official Red Bud approved storage container. This helps out too since recycling is always a good thing.
Teapots line the shelves and never have I seen so many different styles and designs all in one place. The variety here would make the Mad Hatter himself beam with excitement! Along with the teapots, you’ll find all the gadgets and supplies you need to host your very own tea party at home.
As for tea parties, if you’d prefer not to do the work yourself, Red Bud will host one for you. Just make a reservation ahead of time and you can have your very own relaxing tea fit for a queen.
In the back they have a small café with delicious foods like sandwiches, nachos, hard dipped ice cream, and sweet treats that are a perfect complement to your Shipshewana trip. I would definitely recommend trying the baked apple dumpling – never have I tried one that tastes this good – and that is no exaggeration! The apples are huge, the pastry is light and fluffy and topped with a delicious homemade sauce not for the faint of heart.
The teas offered as samples for the day are also great as a refreshing iced tea that they also sell in their café. Making it great for summer days too and to take along as you shop the aisles of bargains in the Midwest’s Largest Flea Market (located right behind the Red Barn) or the 90+ specialty stores (located throughout town).
Red Bud is full of lots of other surprises, gadgets and helpful tools to use in your kitchen or home too like tea steepers, and fun baking products. You won’t be disappointed you stopped in and you might even choose to pick out a unique, hand painted local Amish piece of artwork which would be a great addition to any home décor. I just love these snowmen pieces I couldn't pass up while there last time.
