Foodie Guide to the Shipshewana Flea Market

Post Date: May 07, 2018

Shipshewana Flea Market is full of places to eat as well as goodies you can take home to savor later!

*Please note: the products and booth locations in this blog post are subject to change at any time, as market vendors may vary from week to week.

1. Fresh Produce

A great place to start your food journey would be in the plant and produce aisle near the Shipshewana Flea Market's main entrance. There, you'll find a farmer's market-type atmosphere with seasonal produce, homemade baked goods, jams & jellies, olive oils and more.

Shoppers flock to the produce aisle for fresh fruits and vegetables such as strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, peaches, apples, watermelon, pumpkins, onions, potatoes, tomatoes, asparagus, and lettuce.

Although most people pick up their produce to take home, it's hard to resist sneaking a few tastes while you're still shopping the market!

2. Baked Goods

Here in Amish Country, we're famous for homemade baked goods. You'll find a plethora of baked goods to choose from at the flea market, including cookies, breads, and more.

The baked goods pictured below are from Hilty's, an Amish bakery based out of LaGrange, Indiana, which are sold in the first booth in the plant and produce aisle.

One of the most popular baked goods booths is the Bread Box Bakery, located in space number 516 A-B. They offer locally baked cookies, pecan rolls, cakes, cinnamon rolls, mini pies and breads.

I mean, look at those rolls...they're HUGE!

3. Food Courts

For a full meal and the opportunity to rest in the shade, visit one of the four flea market food courts located throughout the market. These are under pavilions and have picnic table seating (ideal for people watching). Each location offers something a little different, so be sure to check out each menu before deciding where to eat!

Some favorites include Nelsons BBQ Port-a-Pit Chicken, Hoosier Tenderloin Sandwiches, and pie al a mode. You can also get soft drinks and ice cream at all of the locations.

They even have giant whole dill pickles for a dollar!

3. Snacks

The Shipshewana Flea Market also has a variety of snacks to hold you over until your next meal.

One of our favorites is Ben's Pretzels. They have hand-rolled, Amish-inspired, Jumbo soft pretzels that are so hot and gooey, you will fall in love. Plus, you can watch them twist the pretzels right at the booth! Ben's Pretzels is located on the south side of the main food court (Backyard Barnyard) at space 516.

Travel up the aisle a couple of booths and you'll be enticed by free samples of Kettle Korn! Old Tyme Poppin Korn has the best kettle korn around...it's both salty AND sweet!

You'll want to get a bag to eat now and a bag to share for later. Find them at booth 516 C.

Foodies will also love the assorted roasted nuts available at the Shipshewana Flea Market. Believe me, you won't miss this booth because you'll smell the cinnamon goodness as the nuts are roasting from an aisle away! Find them in the farmer's market section.

Being an outdoor market, it can get pretty warm here in the summer time. Luckily, there are plenty of cold treat options for shoppers! Check out Smoothie Delight at space 1007 for delicious, tropical smoothies.

Speaking of cold treats, did you know there is a vendor who offers homemade ice cream made on the spot? He uses an antique international harvester gasoline engine. Find this across from the flea market office near the main entrance. You'll know you're near when you hear the "chug chug" of the ice cream engine.

If you're looking for more traditional concessions, we've got you covered there too! Get a fresh-squeezed lemon shake-up, corn dogs, slushies or even a giant elephant ear at Bruce Concessions near Rest Area 3 or at space 415.

There are many more food options at the Shipshewana Flea Market than what is featured in this post...so basically it's a food-lovers paradise! I'd encourage you to come out to the market and experience it for yourself! Just come hungry! (But not hangry).

Happy Flea-Marketing!
