Flea Market Vendor Spotlight: Art by Marlene
It's not often when you get to meet a vendor like this. From furniture, to collectibles, to essential oils to paintings, Marlene Lehman's booth and product offerings at Shipshewana is always changing. Check out our interview with Marlene below!
Tell me about yourself.
My name is Marlene, and my business name is "Art by Marlene." I'm from here in Shipshewana, Indiana.
I've been doing paintings for 30 years, and selling for 25 years. I started at the Shipshewana Flea Market selling essential oils and diffusers in 2012, and started adding furniture and antiques this past May.
Tell me about your products.
My brother-in-law makes all the new furniture. His business is called Miller's Wood Shop. I sell antiques, glassware, my paintings, essential oils and more. We clean out houses sometimes to get the antiques.
I've been painting for 30 years. My favorite thing to paint are sunsets...that is usually what I teach when I do painting workshops for people.
Also, people like the furniture in my booth because it's so unique, and handmade items are really in right now.
What is your favorite part about being a vendor?
I like making friends. I like when people come back and see me year after year.
Do you have any advice for new vendors?
1. Keep your display interesting and change it up.
2. What you are selling has to be unique and stand out.
3. Don't complain too much...just go with it.
