Easy DIY Mini Pumpkin Succulents
Shipshewana Flea Market has a farmers market that offers all sorts of plants and produce throughout the season. Succulents, are something you'll find from time-to-time and the fall is the time you’ll find pumpkins of all sizes; including mini pumpkins!
These mini pumpkins are the perfect vessel for succulents of all kinds. Simply gather your materials to start this simple project.
You will need:
- mini pumpkins
- succulents
- moss (we used sphagnum moss)
- mini glue gun
- mini glue sticks and...
- a little creativity
- Clean up your mini pumpkin if needed.
- Prepare your moss. If you purchased dried moss in bulk, you'll want to soak it and let it dry overnight... not completely but you don't want it to be soaking wet.
- Apply a thin layer of moss to the top of the pumpkin with hot glue or spray adhesive. (You can leave the stem or remove it depending on how you want your succulent to be seated on the pumpkin.)
- Select the size of the succulents you'd like. You can put one or several small ones on top depending on your design preference. Hot glue them to the top of the pumpkin. They can also be hot glued together so they don’t fall off.
And, yes, they are completely OK and tolerate the heat. - Fill in around the succulents with additional moss. (The moss will be what holds the moisture for your weekly spritzing.)
- You're all set to give as a gift or use it on your Thanksgiving table!
After Fall, simply transport your succulents to another vessel of your choice which could be a teacup, antique insulator, small flower pot or anything that holds a little bit of moss or small stones topped with dirt to keep that succulent healthy with weekly waterings.
Inside Tip: A great place to buy small antiques & collectibles that make great little planters is the weekly, Year-Round, Misc. & Antique Auctions.
