DIY Projects: Create Farmhouse Décor for your Home Using Flea Market Finds
Do you love the look of farmhouse décor but aren’t sure where to start? Here is a quick tip – start at Shipshewana Trading Place!
Farmhouse décor is a comfortable interior design style that incorporates simplicity with rustic charm. Wood and galvanized metal are popular, as are whitewashed walls and furniture with natural accents. Modern farmhouse-inspired homes look great when decorated with a mix of new and old items – many of which you can find at our antique auctions and flea market.
Our favorite thing about farmhouse décor is that it isn’t fussy. Clean and simple is key, but it is open to so much flexibility. Besides, as long as you and your family love it, isn’t that the most important thing?
Antique Auctions at Shipshewana Trading Place
Antique furniture, wall frames, and barn doors are a few great examples of items you can find at the Shipshewana Trading Place antique auctions. Someone may see a broken dining room chair, but you see a fun plant stand for your sunroom. That old wooden farmhouse door might be your beautiful new headboard, or that rusty metal frame may be the perfect centerpiece of your new accent wall.
We suggest browsing Pinterest and other sites before you attend the auction, as it can help your creativity start flowing before the auction starts. There are often so many awesome finds at the auctions that it can be easy to get overwhelmed, dare we say like a kid in a candy store?
Antique auctions take place year-round inside the Shipshewana Antique Building, every Wednesday starting at 9:00 am.
The Shipshewana Trading Place Flea Market
The flea market is open every Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:00 am and 4:00 pm, between May and September. On any given week, you will find nearly 700 vendors on our grounds on our 100-acre property. Bring your walking shoes, and we also recommend reviewing our vendor directory and flea market map before your arrival. You may not be able to see EVERYTHING in one (or two) days, so you want to make sure you don’t miss anything important.
As far as farmhouse décor goes, our Antiques & Collectibles vendors offer collectibles, primitives, vintage items, and repurposed finds. Though you can find project pieces from some of our vendors, you will also find a great selection of upcycled finds created for you. We get it – not everyone loves to DIY, and that’s okay! We’ve got you covered, too.
You may also want to check out our many House & Home vendors that offer a selection of home décor, signs, pictures and frames, and more. We are sure you can mix and match to find the perfect collection of treasures to take home.
We Hope to See You Soon!
