Create a Family Heirloom at This Incredible Shipshewana Furniture Store!
Having lived here since 2016, I am sold on Amish-made furniture and on your next visit you have got to check out Shipshewana Furniture for yourself.
Even before I came to live in Shipshewana, I had a close friend who had special ordered an Amish-made TV Stand and made the 2+ hour trip to select every detail from the wood to the design and stain. Then made the 2+ hour trip back to pick it up once the piece was ready. Well at that time, I thought she was a bit crazy, but now I am sold!
You don’t need a map (well almost) to navigate the 4 floors of furniture and home décor in the gorgeously decorated showrooms in downtown Shipshewana. Let’s start with the main floor which has so many table styles and chairs you’ll be in awe with every turn. Not to mention the hutches, buffets, and the ever-so-trendy electric fireplaces all available in just about any wood, stain or style you prefer.
On my wish list for sure is this live edge table. I have just the place picked out in our home right here in Shipshewana.
For now, I am just in love with the beautiful counter-height Eaton barstools in a beautiful quarter-sawn white oak with Asbury stain. We ordered 4 of them for our living room which is packed full of furniture already (so the counter-height stools are perfect because they look so sleek along the breakfast counter) and they have held up so well to the daily use our 3 kids have thrown at them. (Design Tip: Quarter-sawn oak creates a unique and beautiful pattern due to the sawing method.) We customized them to match the pew we have from an old church back home. (Yes, that is a pew in our living room, but that’s a story for another time). This room is also home to a leather recliner, ceramic side table, green and floral pillows, area rug, and candles (both flameless and the one with the wick)… you guessed it all from Shipshewana Furniture.
On to the 2nd floor, you’ll find the clock gallery… and be sure you are there for the change of the hour because it is quite a symphony of songs with the number of clocks there to sing, chime and sound. There are also the most beautiful bedroom suites (with even more styles on the 3rd floor), desks and home office furniture. (Like I said before, something for absolutely every room of your home!) My kids think this set looks like it came right out of an animated fairy tale movie with the enchanting feel it gives like that of a real-life fairy princess.
With the interior design flare that the staff have, you’ll be able to kick up your feet and imagine yourself at home in any one of their many upholstered chairs, sofas or loveseats that await you on the lower level. (Not that well know feet-in-the-sand beach photo that has become so popular lately, but a great foot photo if I do say so myself).
My statement piece (and you don’t have to go as bold – unless you want) is this bright green loveseat that has become my favorite little evening reading corner. (Right next to the pew which I promise is not nearly as comfy!)
With hundreds of fabrics (800+ not including the leathers - but who's counting...) you will definitely find something that suits your style. Not to mention a selection of décor, from pictures and vases to side tables, TV stands and so much more. (Design Tip: Make sure you bring with you any colors you’re trying to match, measurements for where the piece(s) will go and specific design details or preferences.)
Located on the corner of Middlebury and Harrison Streets (alongside a number of other Harrison Street Shops) Shipshewana Furniture is a great place to create a family heirloom. And with 90% of the wood furniture made within 20 miles of the store, once it's in your home, this reminder of your visit to Amish country will inspire you to visit time and time again.
