Auction Tip 1: Intro. & History of Shipshewana Auction

Are you a new or inexperienced buyer, and want to try out the Wednesday Shipshewana Antique & Miscellaneous Auction? Discover these tips for buying at Shipshewana Auction where we explain everything from buyer’s numbers to understanding the auctioneer to loading your items. Learn the type of auction it is and the history.

The auction is held every Wednesday, year-round. We have anywhere from six to nine auctioneers selling every week here.

The auction itself started in 1922 as a livestock auction, but over the years the Antique & Miscellaneous Auction evolved and has been going on for many years, as well as, the flea market that takes place here every Tuesday and Wednesday seasonally May through September.

Our main market thrust for the weekly auction is for the antiques and collectibles. However, anything and everything sells here. As Argie McDowell (former Shipshewana Auction auctioneer) used to say, “We sell anything from soup to nuts.”

So we encourage you to come and attend the auction. We have experienced buyers and we have many first-time buyers that we love to help discover a new found passion for bidding.

We hope to see you on the auction floor soon!
