Discover the 3 Easy Steps I took to turn this old crusty pot (a hidden treasure found at Shipshewana Flea Market) into beautiful winter decor.
I found this old rusty and crusty bucket (what I love) from Glick's at the flea market this past summer. I knew right away I wanted to turn it into a holiday craft item to sell at one of the upcoming Ship-Chic Craft & Vintage Shows.
*Inside Tip: The Flea Market, Antique Auctions & Swap Meets are great places to find unique things to create with!
Here are 3 Simple Steps for turning this unique piece for your home or to gift during the Christmas season.
1. Clean Your Item
(I usually just use soap and water.)
2. Prep & Add Muslin
Coffee stain your cloth with instant coffee, hot water and cinnamon. Just add your fabric and let it soak. The longer it soaks, the more aged and vintage the item will appear. After soaking to desired look, make sure to dry the fabric. Hanging it out in the sun on a bright day works great. You can also fray the edges by pulling strings of the fabric out to create a fringed look and you may choose to iron it to smooth out any wrinkles.
Next, add mod podge to cloth and allow to dry. Place rice paper (I purchased snowman rice paper online) onto the dried mod podge and then place a piece of parchment paper on top of the rice paper (as to not burn image). Then iron the top of the parchment paper (I used my Cricut mini press or you can use a regular iron low and no steam). What it does is reheat the mod podge and then your image will stick to the fabric. After the item is secured, you can go over the image with another light coat of mod podge to seal.
Crafting Tip: You could also use decorative napkins in place of the rice paper. Just remove the number of plies to get napkin down to 1 ply.
3. Decorate & Enjoy!
The final step is to decorate the bucket with holiday items. (I chose a snowman, a little tree and fairy lights.)
