12 Must Have Flea Market Finds for Your Kitchen
I found some of these unique and necessary kitchen items and a few others this week at the Shipshewana Flea Market that you have to check out for yourself.
Warning: the items, booth locations, and prices in this blog may change without notice, as is the nature of a vendor market.
I am the first to admit that extra clutter in my kitchen is not what I want (I call it selective OCD :), however, there are some things that I just can't live without.
#1 - Fresh Herbs
I love cooking and so does everyone in our house. Fresh herbs make things taste so good and what better way to use fresh herbs than to grow them yourself. You can find a huge variety including Rosemary, Sage and Thyme (pictured above).
Just plant them in a small container in or near your kitchen to cut and add to complete any tasty dish you prepare. (I have also recently learned that Rosemary and Basil are supposed to have mosquito repelling scents!)
Located at: Booth # P28-29 in the Produce Aisle.
Cost: $1.50/box
#2 - Vintage Kitchen Decor
What would a flea market be without some good old antique & vintage items. Whether you decide to use your vintage finds or decorate with them, you won't want to miss this booth full of so many neat things like old tins, cheese grater (great project idea for that one here), bowls, Ball jars, spoons, cups, crates, crocks, cookie cutters, spoons, and so much more.
Located at: Booth # 137-138
Cost: Varies by item.
#3 - Brown Sugar Disc
I have had one of these for as long as I can remember. This cute little bear keeps your brown sugar from hardening for up to 3 months. I wouldn't live without this gadget because we don't go through brown sugar quite as quickly as white sugar and this inexpensive brown sugar disc has paid for itself over and over again.
Located at: Booth #168-170
Cost: $2.95
#4 - Kitchen Scrubbers
Since we love to cook, that means lots of messes too. I don't know what I would do without my kitchen scrubbers and they are so reasonable that I can stock up on them and never have to worry about running out.
Located at: Booth #101-102
Cost: $1/Package
#5 - Oven Rack Push/Pull
I absolutely LOVE this gadget. What is it you say? Well, let me tell you... If you have any trouble getting the rack to slide in and out of your oven like I do it is a lifesaver!
You just use the little hook to pull the rack out at the center. Get out your food or turn over your fries or whatever you may be cooking and just use the little notch to push the rack back in, all without burning your precious fingers, hands or arms.
And these are so cute with the fun designs painted on them - just have to pick your favorite which might be the hardest part of all.
Located at: Booth #131
Cost: $4.99 each
#6 - Spiralizer
If you are looking for a fun, healthy way to replace carbs with fresh veggies, the "Spiralizer" is a tool you should definitely have in your tote of tools.
This single piece slices, spiralizes, and gives beauty to veggies (even the hardest to cut like butternut squash). You can make homemade hash browns, add these veggie ribbons to dishes like lasagna and get your kids to eat their veggies just because they look fun too.
Located at: Booth #126
Cost: $25 (ask about their specials offers from time-to-time)
#7 - Kitchen Signs
Good for the kitchen or dining room, these great signs are perfect for your Farmhouse feel decor. There is a huge variety of signs and sizes.
Located at: Booth #203-204, 229-230
Cost: Varies by sign.
#8 - Kitchen Towels & Bag Holders
These cute towels and bag holders remind me of my grandma since she was the first one to make one of these for my husband and I when we were first married. I have not been able to go without both since then.
The towel is so handy to hang on a drawer handle or oven door handle for quick and easy access to dry my hands while cooking. The bag holder is also great and helps me to help by recycling all those plastic grocery bags that can be used for so many household chores.
Located at: Booth #192
Cost: $3-8 depending on design and size.
#9 - Pineapple Corer / Slicer
This tool for slicing and coring a pineapple is so cool! When the pineapple is removed, it leaves you with the pineapple base which can be used for dips or a centerpiece. Looks just like you had it cut in the store and includes the extra benefit of the natural dish.
Located at: Booth #206-207, 801-802
Cost: $9
#10 - Silicone Stretch Lids
This great set of silicone stretch lids is perfect for bowls of all shapes and sizes. The unique design creates the perfect air tight seal. There is even one that works perfectly on a 9 X 13 dish. What we're not supposed to tell you is that they also just might make the best drum you'll ever own:).
Located at: Booth #1011
Cost: $20 for a set of 6. (Ask about the bonus with your purchase!)
#11 - Happy Salt
Happy Salt... need I say more? Let's just say it is good on EVERYTHING!
Located at: Booth #646
Cost: $10
#12 - Cutco Cutlery
Janet representing Cutco Cutlery has been a full-season vendor in the market since 2002 and Janet herself has been a vendor in the market with other products since 1980.
You can't beat these amazing knives and here is a huge plus... She offers free knife sharpening in the market while you shop. So if you have Cutco knives and they need a little TLC, just drop them off at her booth and come back by later in the day and she'll have them sharpened at their best again in no time.
