10 Delicious & Creative Ways to Use Pie Filling

Who doesn’t love an amazing sweet treat every now and then? I’ll bet if you are anything like me, you don’t really have the time to put your heart and soul in the main ingredients because you are busy with… well all that life has to throw your way.

Shipshewana Flea Market vendor Mandy's Harvest has motivated this list and helped us share with you ways to make it super easy! Discover 10 Ways (other than the classic pie) to use pie filling in your next dessert.

1. Pudgy Pies (aka Campfire Pies)

  • Ingredients:
    • Bread (white or wheat)
    • Butter
    • Pie filling of any flavor
  • Instructions:
    • Butter both sides of two slices of bread.
    • Place one slice of bread in a pudgy pie iron, add a spoonful of pie filling, and top with the second slice of bread.
    • Close the pie iron and cook over a campfire or grill for 3-5 minutes per side, until golden brown.

2. Turnovers

  • Ingredients:
    • Puff pastry sheets
    • 1 jar of pie filling
    • Egg wash (1 egg beaten with a splash of water)
  • Instructions:
    • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
    • Cut puff pastry into squares. Add a spoonful of pie filling in the center.
    • Fold the pastry over to form a triangle and seal the edges with a fork or pastry tool.
    • Brush with egg wash and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.

3. Cheesecake Topping

  • Ingredients:
    • 1 pre-made cheesecake
    • 1 jar of pie filling (cherry or blueberry works great but get creative and use the flavors you like best)
  • Instructions:
    • Spoon the pie filling over the top of the cheesecake just before serving.
    • For extra flair, you can swirl the pie filling into the cheesecake before it sets.

4. Pie Filling Milkshakes

  • Ingredients:
    • Vanilla ice cream
    • Milk
    • Pie filling (apple, cherry, or your favorite seasonal flavor)
  • Instructions:
    • In a blender, combine 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream, ½ cup of milk, and 2-3 tablespoons of pie filling.
    • Blend until smooth, adding more milk if needed.
    • Top with whipped cream and an extra spoonful of pie filling or a cherry (your choice).

5. Pie Filling Pancakes

  • Ingredients:
    • Pancake batter (your favorite recipe or box mix)
    • Pie filling (strawberry rhubarb or peach works well)
  • Instructions:
    • Prepare your pancake batter.
    • Spoon a little pie filling onto the batter after pouring it onto a griddle or oiled skillet.
    • Cook until bubbles form on the surface, then flip and cook until golden brown.

6. Pie Filling Yogurt Parfait

  • Ingredients:
    • Greek yogurt
    • Granola
    • Pie filling (peach or berry)
  • Instructions:
    • Layer yogurt, granola, and pie filling in a glass or jar.
    • Repeat layers and top with a sprinkle of granola.

7. Pie Filling Ice Cream Topping

  • Ingredients:
    • Vanilla ice cream
    • Pie filling (any flavor)
  • Instructions:
    • Warm the pie filling slightly in the microwave or on the stove.
    • Spoon it over vanilla ice cream for a quick and delicious dessert.

8. Mini Pie Jars

  • Ingredients:
    • Mini mason jars
    • Crushed graham crackers or pre-made pie crust
    • Pie filling (choose your favorite flavor)
    • Whipped cream
  • Instructions:
    • Layer the crushed graham crackers or pie crust in the bottom of each jar.
    • Spoon in pie filling.
    • Top with whipped cream and serve.

9. Cobbler

  • Ingredients:
    • 1 jar of pie filling (peach, cherry, or blueberry)
    • 1 cup flour
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 1 tsp baking powder
    • 1 cup milk
    • ½ cup melted butter
  • Instructions:
    • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Pour the melted butter into the bottom of a baking dish.
    • In a bowl, mix together flour, sugar, and baking powder. Stir in the milk until just combined.
    • Pour the batter over the melted butter, then spoon the pie filling over the top (do not stir).
    • Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden and the cobbler is set.

10. Dump Cake

  • Ingredients:
    • 1 jar of pie filling (apple, cherry, or your favorite flavor)
    • 1 box of yellow cake mix
    • 1 stick of butter, sliced into thin pats
  • Instructions:
    • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Spread the pie filling evenly in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.
    • Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the pie filling.
    • Arrange the pats of butter evenly over the cake mix.
    • Bake for 45-50 minutes until the top is golden and the filling is bubbly.
