Some of my favorite pieces have come from right here in Shipshewana—and each one adds a little extra charm and personality to our home and outdoor spaces.
An Antique Auction Find with a New Life
One of my favorite finds came from the Shipshewana Antique Auction—a cute little cart that immediately caught my eye as I walked past it on the auction floor. I’m not sure what its original purpose was, but as soon as I saw it, I knew I wanted to bid on it and bring it home for our garden décor.
This little wheelbarrow-style cart has been such a fun piece to decorate throughout the seasons. In the fall, it’s filled with mums, pumpkins, and broom corn, creating a festive display we enjoy from September through November.
The mums, plants, and pumpkins were purchased toward the end of the Flea Market season, while the broom corn came from a roadside stand just outside of Shipshewana. When the holiday season arrives, we’ll transform it again with Christmas greenery, twinkling lights, and winter touches—and the cart’s pretty shape shines year-round with just the right lighting.
A Flea Market Treasure for Fall
Another recent favorite is this vintage green double sink wash tub—a piece I’ve wanted for years! I found it at the Shipshewana Flea Market, and it was love at first sight. The color, the patina, the possibilities—it all came together perfectly for our outdoor fall decorating.
This season, I filled it with mums, straw, Indian corn, and pumpkins from the Flea Market Farmers Market vendors. I even added a few antique teapots planted with flowers, all found between the Antique Auction and Flea Market, for a whimsical farmhouse touch.
It’s amazing how these unique finds come together to create such warm, inviting seasonal décor. Each piece tells a story—and they all make our space feel so homey and festive.
